As professionals who work with children with disabilities one of our goals is facilitating integration into community life. Practising new skills can only take one so far.  True integration in community life for people with disabilities can only occur if bigger changes are made. One of the ways we can help do that is by educating the community.

At the Technology Consulting Center at Beit Issie Shapiro we are on a continuous drive to improve universal access to technology for our children. We take every opportunity to make those important connections, meet app developers, and share our knowledge about what our clients need. Luckily, since we are located in Israel, “The Start-Up Nation”, we have many companies and developers to turn to. And that is exactly what we are doing. Next week members of our team are presenting a hands-on workshop for app developers on how to make apps more accessible for people with disabilities. Workshops like this allow us to raise awareness of the need for universal design and hopefully they will bring more accessible apps to the market.

We’d love to hear about how you are stimulating change in your communities! Please tell us about it in the comments section.
