Excited for Chanukah and dreidel games? Do you know someone who has trouble spinning a dreidel? If so, the app Dreidelit is for you! We at The Technology Center of Beit Issie Shapiro, are very excited to introduce you to our new app, Dreidelit, which allows anyone to spin a dreidel with a simple touch on the screen. The app can be downloaded on any Android touch screen device and was developed in collaboration with Carmel 6000, a social tech innovation program that develops technological solutions for social challenges. We would like to take this opportunity to give a big thanks to the wonderful developers that donated their time and effort to this project!! We have no doubt that many people will benefit from this app this Chanukah and in years to come.
Dreidelit is a basic app that makes spinning a dreidel accessible to many people. With one touch to the screen, the dreidel starts to spin. The app is available on Android devices (tablets and smartphones) and can be downloaded on Google Play for free. In the app settings, you may choose the appropriate letters for where you live (Israel or outside of Israel: “פ” or “ש”).
We have already started to play with the app at our school and the students are enjoying their dreidel games in anticipation of Chanukah! In the photo below, you can see one of our students spinning the dreidel with the app displayed on our big touch screen, (which uses both Windows and Android operating systems) allowing all his peers to see what letter he gets.
Below you can see the communication board we created for use with the dreidel app and game.
Using the app on phones or tablets, kids can play dreidels together:
How to use the app?
The app is very simple to use. Once downloaded it is ready for use. You can change the colors of the dreidel or the background by touching on the color wheel at the bottom of the screen. This button can be hidden from the screen in the settings page. Enter settings by holding the settings button (in the top left hand corner) for 2 seconds.
Additional options in settings:
- Choosing dreidel letters for Israel or Outside-Israel, (נס, גדול, היה, פה/שם)
- Speed of the music.
We hope you enjoy this new app! Happy Chanukah!
The grandkids and I are loving it.
